对于英语母语者，几乎能凭借本能在一种语言的各级客气表达间准确切换。
而对于我们这些非英语母语的学习者来说，想准确表达“客气”确实是不太容易。
有时候甚至让人感觉非常有攻击性，也不礼貌。
我这里给你介绍一套表达“客气”程度的公式，我自己在工作中也经常用到。

Level 1 - 间接换直接（用can和could）在英语中，通常较直接的句子是不太礼貌的，即使你在句子后面加了“please”。
比如：Give me the book, please? VS Could you give me the book?前者是不太客气的，后者是比较客气的。
说到这就不得不提一句，could比can往往表达要更客气一些。
因为can的感觉要比could更直接。
can you XXX带有些许寻问对方是否“能”办到这件事的意思，而could有寻问对方意愿的意思。
因此can比could要更直接。
下面再举几个直接VS间接的例子：Could you give me five minutes? vs Go awayI’m afraid I can’t. vs No.Can you hold, please? vs Wait.Level 2 - would you mind +verb +ing举例：It's so hot would you mind opening the window? I'm so tired, would you mind turning off the radio? Level 3 - I was wondering if +pronoun +could举例：It's too far and I'm a little late, I was wondering if you could take me to there?I'm tired I was wondering if we could finish this tomorrow? Level 4 - 否定句+could/would +pronoun如果前3个级别还不能满足你的需求，比如说，你要在外面拦下一个陌生人寻问事情或者请求帮助，或者需要你朋友帮一个很大的忙等等。
那么你需要用到level4的公式。
通常我们会用到to be, have, could, would举例：Excuse me, I couldn't borrow(否定句) your car this evening, could I? Listen Johnson, I'm a bit broken at the moment. You wouldn't lend(否定句) me $50 until next week, would you? Level 5 - 在Level4的句子最末加上"by any chance"如果上面4个等级的“客气”程度仍然不够的话，那么你需要在Level 4的基础上加上by any chance。
举例：You're not free tomorrow, you are by any chance? You haven't got a bigger towel, have you by any chance? 好了，以上就是要介绍给你的公式。
这里必须补充一点，如果是在商务或者工作环境中，Level1是不太合适的，应该用Level2或者Level3。
