Themoon,revolvingaroundtheeartheachmonth,alsohasanindependentmotioninthesky.Themoon,however,changesitspositionrelativelyrapidly.Althoughitappearstoriseandseteachday,asdoesnearlyeverythingelseinthesky,wecanseethemoonchangingpositionduringasshortanintervalasanhourorso.Themoon'spatharoundtheearthliesnearlyinthesameplaneastheearth'spatharoundthesun,sothemoonisneverseenveryfarfromtheeclipticinthesky.Therearefiveotherobjectsvisibletothenakedeyethatalsoappeartomoveinrespecttothefixedbackgroundofstarsonthecelestialsphere.ThesearetheplanetsMercury,Venus,Mars,Jupiter,andtheSaturn.Allofthemrevolvearoundthesuninnearlythesameplaneastheearthdoes,sothey,likethemoon,alwaysappearneartheecliptic.Becauseweseetheplanetsfromthemovingearth,however,theybehaveinacomplicatedway,withtheirapparentmotionsonthecelestialspherereflectionboththeirownindependentmotionsaroundthesunandourmotionaswell.
