本期节目，我们将介绍它们的派生词：“sûrement”和“surely”——也是一对“假朋友”啦。
法语的副词“sûrement”与形容词“sûr”的意思相似，表示“肯定，确信，保险”，常译为英语的“certainly，definitely，safely”等，而一般不译为“surely”，例如：
Mais vous m’avez dit que M. Grimaud serait sûrement là cet après-midi.
But you told me Mr. Grimshaw would certainly /definitely be in /Mr. Grimshaw was sure to be in this afternoon.
可你说过Grimaud先生下午肯定会来的。
Vous avez sûrement entendu parler de ce livre.
I’m sure you’ve heard of this book /(I’m sure) you must have heard of this book.
你肯定听说过这本书。
L’argent était moins sûrement caché qu’elle ne l’avait cru.
The money was less safely hidden than she had thought.
她以为钱藏得很安全，实际上不是那么回事。
而英语的“surely”几乎已经演变成一个语气词(sentence modifier)了，有多重含义，但一般都不译为“sûrement”。“Surely”经常放在句首，表示对自己的话很有把握，希望他人同意 （= Am I not right in thinking that…）。要注意的是：“surely”所表示的“肯定”是没有事实依据的，仅仅是一种感觉, 猜测（A strong belief in the statement, on the basis of experience or probability, but without absolute proof），所以，不能翻译为“sûrement”。
例如：
Surely I’ve met you somewhere before?
Il me semble que /j’ai l’impression que je vous ai déjà rencontré quelque part.
我们以前在哪里见过面吧？
语气词“surely”所引出的句子往往带有点“挑战，抬杠”的情绪色彩
（implying a readiness to maintain it against imaginary or possible denial）：
Surely all that children do is imitate their parents. (Why is that so surprising?)
Il est évident que tout ce que ces enfants font, c'est imiter leurs parents. (Qu'y a-t-il / Qu'y aurait-il de surprenant à cela ?)
儿童当然要模仿父母啦。（这有什么可奇怪的？）
“Surely”还经常用于否定句，表示“难以置信，震惊，责备”的语气（to express incredulity, astonishment, disapproval）。而法语的“sûrement”则没有这种用法。法语里也有类似的语气词（sentence modifier）, 但和“surely”这种用法相对应的是“tout de même，quand même”等短语。所以，这个意义的“surely”一般不译为法语的“sûrement”。
例如：
Surely you can't be serious?
Attends, t'es pas sérieux ?! / arrête ! t'es pas sérieux ?!
你该不是当真吧？
Surely you don't mean that?
Vous ne parlez pas sérieusement !
您是在开玩笑吧？
You’re surely not going out /surely you’re not going out at this time of night?
Tu ne vas tout de même pas sortir à cette heure-ci !
这么晚了，你该不会想要出去吧？
“Surely”还可以对别人的提议或要求表示肯定或同意——“当然，没问题”：
Will you help me carry this table?——Surely！
Veux-tu m’aider à porter cette table ?——Mais oui, bien sûr /volontiers !
你帮我扛这个桌子好吗？——没问题！
最后，再总结一下：
1．法语的“sûrement”的意思和“sûr”差不多，而英语的“surely”则与“sure”有较大差异。
2．“Surely”常用于否定句，表示“难以置信”，而法语的“sûrement”则没有这种用法，
