仔细研究这4个组:第三组是最令学生混淆的:
A。family -noun,单数=single:use is/was:
(1) There is only one family staying in the village。
(2) He moved his family to Beijing last year。
(3) Are you going to have a family?
(4) He wanted to have a good job before starting a family。
B。family-noun,复数=plural:Use are/were:
(1) These houses were built for 100 families。
(2) "All happy families are alike,but every unhappy one is unhappy in its own way"
C。英国英语:family=集体名词=collective noun,复数=plural:定义:
"All the members of a household under one roof" =use "are/were"。
(1) His family are completely behind him,whatever he decides。
(2) The message was addressed not just to employees but to every member of the company family。
其他集体名词:[复数=plural] Police; people; crowd; audience; enemy; public,company; clergy; group。。。
注:美国英语有2个不同的用法:单数与复数:
(i) 单数=当 "family/enemy。。。"被视为一个单位:用 is/was; it:
(a) The family was united on this question/issue。
(ii) 复数:指 members of the family 家庭成员时,用 are/were; they;them:
(a) My family are always fighting among themselves。
D。family=adjective=形容词
