Presented as a low-carbon building evaluation framework in this paper are detailed carbonemission account procedures for the life cycle of buildings in terms of nine stages as buildingconstruction, fitment, outdoor facility construction, transportation, operation, wastetreatment, property management, demolition, and disposal for buildings, supported byintegrated carbon intensity databases based on multi-scale input–output analysis, essentialfor low-carbon planning, procurement and supply chain design, and logisticsmanagement。As one of the main energy consumers, buildings contribute to high terminal carbon emission。Restraining building-relatedcarbon emission can play an important role in context of energy conservation and global climate change。An assessment framework for low-carbon buildings is presented in this study with the introduction of systems carbonemission indicators and detailed carbon emission account procedures for the life cycle of buildings in terms of nine stagesas building construction, fitment, outdoor facility construction, transportation, operation, waste treatment, property management, demolition, and disposal, with related material, equipment, energy and manpower inputs inclusively covered。With existing carbon intensity databases supportive for the systems carbon account extensively reviewed, the basicscheme and algorithm for multi-scale input–output analysis for emission intensities are presented for the construction ofmore consistent carbon intensity databases for the globalized economies characterized by multi-scales。Besides for post-assessment of life-cycle performance of building, the multi-scale consistent databases with extensive coveragein both scales and objectives are useful to compare the carbon emissions embodied in substitutable materials from differentsources, which is essential for low-carbon planning, procurement and supply chain design, and logistics management。
