英语中一般过去时所有出现的动词都要变吗

应该是句子的谓语动词要用过去式。
再问： when I was a student ， i often visited the city library这句中的动词为甚么全变了
再答： when I was a student 从句也是句子 i often visited the city library 主句当然是句子。 我的意思是： I got up early to catch the early bus。后面的to catch不能变。
