1 这里面的and都是并列用法,没有连词作用。第一行的and of dark里面的of不能去掉,表示后面的dark,narrow streets……是和monstrous edifices并列,都做consist的宾语。2 torn by the noise of the taxicabs,lorries and buses,and thronged ceaselessly by great crowds是定语从句,形容the modern city。 再问： 把 2 恢复为定于从句原型的话是不是 the modern city which is torn by。。。 and 前有个逗号，这让我感觉像是连词呢？ 是因为 定语过长所以后置了是吧？ 再答： 对，你理解得很对，torn和thronged是并列的，and前的逗号是可有可无的。
