当连接两个并列成份时，不能用and，而用or。如，Are a teacher or a doctor?Do you like Chinese or English？在陈述句中用and，如I can sing and dance.or用在选择疑问句中，意为“或者，还是”。and不可用于疑问句。Is he a doctor or a teacher？他是医生还是教师？
And的用法
一.and有这么一个用法，and前后的两部分表示同时发生的动作的，或者是同时存在的属性、特征等的时候，这时候它的意思就需要进行转换了，可以译为‘又...又...’，‘既...又...’，‘一方面...，一方面’，‘而’等。
这一类的是这样使用的，例如：
If a body is acted upon by a number of forces and still remains motionless, the body is said to be in equilibrium。
The process of oxidation in human body gives off heat slowly and regularly。
二.and还有一种用法，与上一个用法类似，但还是有很大的不同的，在and前后的两部分，有时在表示不能同时并存的事物或是动作的时候。这时候的and所表达的意思是‘或’。
这一类的使用，例如：
The whole equipment can be assembled and dismantled in a matter of hours。
三.在and的使用过程中还有这么一种情况，表因果关系时，and前面的部分表示原因或条件，后面的部分表示结果，在这里面的and相当于so that，可以把它翻译为‘因此’，‘所以’，‘从而’等等。
使用的时候像这样的，例如：
Sound is carried by air, and without air there can be no sound。
After firing the torpedoes the forward part would lose weight and the submarine would be out of balance。
