表被动。want，need，require作“需要”讲时，宾语用名词的主动形式表被动含义。require是动词词性，通常用于及物动词和不及物动词，有需要，要求，命令，规定，想要等含义。也可引导宾语从句。
require的用法1.require sth 需要，依靠
These pets require a lot of care and attention.
这些宠物需要悉心照顾。
2.require sb to do sth 要求某人做某事
At the beginning of the new term, all students will be required to take a short test.
在新学期的开始，所有学生都要参加一次小测试。
3.require doing sth 需要做某事
This book is required reading for this course.
这本书是这本课程的指定读物。
4.require that+从句 需要，要求
在require引导的宾语从句中，谓语动词用“should +动词原形”，should可省略。
The situation required that he (should) be present.
这种情形需要他在场。
The task demands skills which cannot be presumed and therefore require proper training.
这一任务要求的不是想当然的技术,因此需要足够训练。
The seeds require the catalytic action of water to release heat.
种子需要水的催化作用来散热。
The kidneys require more water to flush out waste products.
