stay的用法

stay可用作及物动词和不及物动词，也可作系动词，有停留，停止，继续处于某种状态等含义；作名词时有逗留，延期，忍耐等含义。

vt.& vi. 停留；停止；坚持；抑制

vi. 继续处于某种状态；

n. 逗留；延期；倚靠；忍耐

1.用作不及物动词

I stayed to see what would happen.

我留下来看进一步的发展。

She stayed to take care of her mother.

她留下来照料她母亲。

2.用作系动词

She is my girl and she stays my girl, understand?

她永远是我的女儿,明白吗?

He stayed a bachelor.

他不结婚。

3.用作及物动词

You'd better stay the weekend.

你最好留下来过周末。

He stayed the work and had the machinery removed.

他把工作停下来,让人把机器搬掉。

4.用作名词

We only intend to make a short stay here.

我们只想在这儿作短暂的逗留。
